That allows them to take advantage of bulk purchasing/manufacturing/distribution as well as spreading R&D and overhead costs over millions of sales instead of thousands of sales. If they had developed it specifically for the robotics market, the simple fact is they'd be dealing with a market that would sell tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of units at most. This is a view of the Kinect IR laser projector as seen from an inexpensive webcam. I'm sure Microsoft soaked a huge amount of R&D money into the Kinect. It's simply a matter of economies of scale. Seems like a pretty obvious first choice to me. One question is: Why livingroom gaming as the first target? It seems like an odd first choice. ![]()
